MSA-C

Clinically cerebellar features predominate
Replaces the old term sporadic olivopontocerebellar atrophy (sOPCA)

Glial cytoplasmic inclusions (GCIs) which are strongly alpha-synuclein-positive are found in association with degenerative changes

Areas that can be affected in MSA (alphabetical): autonomic nuclei of the brainstem,
caudate nucleus, cerebellar Purkinje cells, globus pallidus, inferior olive, intermediolateral cell columns in the spinal cord, locus ceruleus, Onuf's nucleus in the spinal cord, pontine nuclei, putamen, substantia nigra

In MSA-C there is predominant affection of the cerebellar pathways; lesions can be quite focal and demyelination may be seen as in the other form of MSA (MSA-P)
